News & Updates – Wildwood

Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Hillcrest Folk

At the beginning of this month I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Hillcrest school in Salmon Arm, BC with Lauren Mann to be part of a music program, The Artist Engagement Project. The project aimed to connect the Grade 4’s and 5’s with a professional touring musician and have the kids learn and perform a selection of songs from their discography. Lauren was chosen for this years project and I don’t think it could have been more of a success! It was a wildly fun week hanging out with the kids. They had so much passion, energy, and enthusiasm for the music and life in general. I took the time to mix the audio live from one of the concerts (they put on three) and put together this short movie of our time there, and the concert!

New Wildwood Session

Hey Friends!

Last month I had the incredible opportunity to connect with a band I’ve been listening to for the past 10 years called The Classic Crime. They’re a pop-rock band out of Seattle area and just released a new album called How To Be Human. I found these guys just before their first album came out and have been following them ever since, so this was a very special session for me to do!

Check it out here:

This was also the first full band session I’ve done, so it was fun to be pushed a bit outside of what I’m use to doing. I hope you enjoy it!

First American Session

Hey Friends!

Lauren and I went down to Seattle and Portland a few weeks ago for a little trip, and as a surprise to her, to see Radiohead! While we were down there I was able to connect with two fantastic artists to produce the first Wildwood sessions filmed in America! First up are The Talbott Brothers, originally from the midwest, now residing in Portland Oregon.

Check out their fantastic session, and incredibly catchy song Hey Honey here:

Stay tuned for the next American session soon!

Lauren Mann: Dearestly

Lauren Mann Text
New album Dearestly out July 8, 2016 (digital) and August 19, 2016 (CD & Vinyl) with a 50 date cross-Canada tour to follow!

“Honest & affectionate, with a little bit of whimsy,” is the sentiment behind songstress Lauren Mann’s latest album Dearestly, out September 2, 2016 on Wildwood. The songs are a poignant narrative of dark and light set against the backdrop of different landscapes, and chronicle years of touring and personal joys and struggles. Musically, the album travels from moments of sparse simplicity to bombastic choruses, anchored by Lauren’s vocal prowess and beautiful melodies.

After winning the CBC Searchlight contest in 2014 and coming in 2nd place in the Peak Performance Project later that year, the Calgary native who recently put down roots in British Columbia’s Southern Gulf Islands took the following year off to develop what is now

Dearestly with producers Howard Redekopp and Josh Rob Gwilliam. Recorded in Calgary at OCL Studios, the album explores dynamic and organic soundscapes and textures creating a sound that hints at influences from Kate Bush to the Beatles but at the same time is completely unique. It’s an expertly crafted journey through moments of joyous elation to haunting darkness, providing a depth and maturity to the foundation that was laid in Lauren’s 2012 release Over Land and Sea.

Lauren will be heading across the country with a 50 date release tour starting on September 19 with her band of Fairly Odd Folk. Find the list of dates below and get more info at:

House Show with Caleb Hart & Mikey Blue Shoes

Last week we had the pleasure of having our second Wildwood guests! Caleb Hart, the lead singer for the reggae band Tasman Jude, was here on the island in November to open for Buckman Coe at the

Community Hall. He had such a good time that he wanted to come back on his solo tour to play a full set! Mikey Blue Shoes, also from Grande Prairie was joining him on the tour and opened up the show here at Wildwood. The house was packed with about 25 people, and we had food and drinks and shared a wonderful evening. Both Mikey and Caleb are really talented songwriters and performers, and in such an intimate performance setting it was so easy to connect with the songs. There were many moments where, even though most people were hearing the songs for the first time, Caleb had the everyone singing along!

I love nights like these because they really take on a life of their own and make for such unique, memorable experiences. Enjoy these shots, taken by Zoltan, from the evening!

Stay tuned for our next house show announcement coming soon, and we hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
